Siyathokoza Mtolo joins a Mellon supported project on Mobility, Temporality, and Africa’s Future Politics at ACMS. Siyathokoza is a Durbanite who has consistently chosen to study relatively far from “home,” albeit still within South Africa. He has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Cape Town. His Honours, Masters, and doctoral degrees were all received from Rhodes University. His research documents and analyses how people experience places. In his studies of place-based experience, he has chosen to focus on walking as a way in which people often experience some places in their lives. His research at ACMS will be focusing on how (un)safety during walking interacts with how a place is experienced.
