Julia Hornberger

Senior Researcher
Julia Hornberger, (PhD), is senior researcher at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology, University of Zurich and a research fellow at the African Centre for Migration and Society, University of the Witwatersrand. She is also a co-founder of the Johannesburg Workshop in Theory and Criticism (JWTC). She has published on issues pertaining to violence, justice, policing, corruption and the social life of law. Her book “Human rights and Policing. The Meaning of Violence and Justice in the Everyday Policing of Johannesburg“ has just been released by Routledge. Her current work is located at the interface between law and health, and focuses on the (international) policing of counterfeit and other substandard medication, and illicit forms of treatment.
