Iriann Freemantle |
Researcher
Iriann obtained her PhD from the University of the Witwatersrand in 2010. Her doctoral research explored the ways in which African migrants in Johannesburg establish cosmopolitan 'counter-discourses' and practices in response to South African nationalism and xenophobia. Before studying at Wits, she completed an M.Sc. in Migration and Ethnic Studies from the University of Amsterdam and a B.A. in Media and Culture Studies at Heinrich-Heine-Universität.
Currently, Iriann is working on social cohesion and migration policies in South Africa as part of the 'Migrating out of Poverty' (MOOP) research consortium coordinated by the University of Sussex.
