Nixon Tasakana is a native Democratic Republic of Congo living in South Africa. Tasakana (prefers to be called) has a research interest in political violence, ethnicity, identity and citizenship belonging, forced migration and displacement in conflict zones and overall migration and mobility research issues. His research at ACMS is focusing on the health needs and help-seeking behaviours of migrant women from conflict zones in Johannesburg. Before joining ACMS, Tasakana graduated from the University of the Western Cape with Honours in Political Science, political violence and contemporary democratic theories. Tasakana holds a bachelor degree from the University of the Western Cape double major in Political Science and Sociology. He has previously worked in retail as salesperson and manager and has also worked as a tutor as well as a research assistant. Tasakana was also involved in student leadership and served in various community and faith-based organisations.
