Dr Nicholas Maple is a Lecturer in Refugee Studies at the Refugee Law Initiative, School of Advanced Study, University of London. He is the Module Convenor for the core module, ‘An Introduction to Refugee and Forced Migration Studies’ on the MA in Refugee Protection and Forced Migration Studies at the University of London. His research interests take a multidisciplinary approach to examining refugee and migrant displacement in Africa and Latin America. His current research project focuses on protection and solutions to displacement in Africa. His first monograph was published in July 2024 by the University of London Press: Refugee Reception in Southern Africa: National and Local Policies in Zambia and South Africa.
He currently supervises PhD students at the School of Advanced Study, University of London, and MA dissertations at the School of Advanced Study and School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London and the African Centre for Migration & Society (ACMS), University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. He is the Joint Editor-in-Chief of the Refugee Survey Quarterly Journal, published by Oxford University Press and a Research Associate at ACMS, University of the Witwatersrand.
