New Collection: AL3286 - The Forced Migration Studies Programme on Xenophobic violence Collection

In May 2008, the FMSP collected oral history interviews from people displaced by xenophobic violence in Gauteng Province. Edited transcripts of these interviews, which were explicitly collected to be made public to represent the personal experiences of persons displaced by violence, are available for download from the above South African History Archive site. The collection provides unique insight into the phenomenon of xenophobia, revealing its detrimental effect on the lives of both victims and perpetrators. Xenophobia is a human rights violation, and SAHA is proud to accept this collection, which enriches our archival material on the subject. SAHA also holds other useful documentation related to xenophobia, notably the Freedom of Information Programme Collection (AL2878), received as a result of PAIA requests made to the Department of Home Affairs by the Freedom of Information Programme in 2006.
